Lion Hearted Leaders

Lion Hearted Leaders is a school based leadership program which has been developed by Brisbane Lions Welfare and Fan Development departments in partnership with Brisbane Lions players, AFL Queensland and Education Queensland. The key messages of this program are based on the Brisbane Lions’ in-house leadership principles and aim to deliver core leadership values in a school-based context using the terms ‘Mateship’ and ‘Inclusion’.

In 2016, Lion Hearted Leaders will be available to every student in the nation, aged 10 to 11. The Lion Hearted Leaders program is now easier than ever for teachers to deliver, and students need nothing but their pencil and school book to complete.

Get your school involved

To register your school or for more information please contact Lachlan Harris on (07) 3335 1735 or LHarris@lions.com.au

Once registered you and your school will receive:
- Lion Hearted Leaders teacher guide
- USB – with video sessions 1 and 3 and an interactive PDF that can be printed out for students
- Letter to parents – Lion Hearted Leaders introduction
- Certificate for each student who completes the program

About the program

Lion Hearted Leaders is a three session program designed for students in grades 5 and 6. Sessions one and three are run on-screen by Brisbane Lions players Daniel Merrett, Dayne Zorko and Tayla Harris. All sessions are interlinked to ensure students are learning the theory behind the leadership terms ‘Mateship’ and ‘Inclusion’. The four key areas that are translated into an environment that students can relate to are:

Student Environment                              Brisbane Lions Environment

School                                        =              Brisbane Lions training track

Sporting field                            =              Brisbane Lions game day

Class                                           =              Brisbane Lions education session

Playground                                =              Brisbane Lions community

The USB that is supplied contains an interactive PDF which allows kids to type the answers on the PDF if they have access to a computer or schools can choose to print the sheets out. Alternatively students can write answers in their school books. Regardless of which option you choose, it will not have any impact on the delivery of the program.
