1904 Premiership

Fitzroy finished on top of the ladder with a 12-5 record and beat Collingwood to qualify for the grand final against Carlton in perfect weather in front of 32,688 spectators.

The Blues had been the big improvers of the year under ex-Fitzroy favorite son Jack Worrall as captain-coach after they’d lost the first game of the year to Fitzroy by 94 points.

It was close to halftime, with underdogs Carlton leading by a point, but the Maroons finished strongly to win by four goals.
