Lions recruit Amon Buchanan will be free to play in the team's season opener after the AFL Match Review Panel (MRP) cleared him of the match-day report from the Club's final pre-season hitout against Hawthorn last Friday at Southport.

Buchanan was reported late i the third quarter of the NAB Challenge clash for allegedly making forceful contact from front-on against Hawthorn's Xavier Ellis.

Upon review of the incident, the panel today said that Buchanan converged to contest the ball, but then stopped when he reached the contest. As Ellis handballed the ball, his momentum took him forward and into the stationary Buchanan. It was the view of the panel that Buchanan had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball.

After making this assessment, the MRP decided that no further action was necessary.
