The Brisbane Lions might be headed overseas to New Zealand for the Club’s first ever match for premiership points abroad, but the trip itself shouldn’t have any affect the team’s preparation.

In fact, the travel time from Brisbane to Wellington is approximately 3.5 hours – which is only an hour longer than a trip to Melbourne and 90 minutes shorter than a flight to Perth.

St Kilda’s trip to Wellington from Melbourne is only marginally longer (around 15 minutes).

The Saints headed to New Zealand on Tuesday, while the majority of the Lions squad will depart Brisbane the day before the game on Thursday morning – much like any other interstate travel.

Head of Coaching and Development Peter Schwab said while the travel shouldn’t pose any problem for the Lions, the Club would have to quickly familiarise themselves with the foreign venue.

“We travel a fair bit, so I don’t think the travel is an issue. It’s just going to a different venue,” Schwab told LIONS TV as part of the Vero Coaches’ Wrap.

“St Kilda are probably a bit more aware of the ground and its dimensions.

“We’re not sure about the weather, although at night time we think it will be cold and slippery, we’ll have to adjust accordingly.

“We’re confident, we trained well (on Tuesday) and I think the boys will give a really good show.”
