A clean bill of health from their Round 5 match against Richmond means the Brisbane Lions’ Match Committee will be in a unique situation ahead of Friday’s ANZAC Day clash with St Kilda in Wellington.

Not only will there be no forced changes through injury, but up to three regular senior players are expected to return from a stint on the sidelines.

Daniel Merrett is certain to face the Saints having served his two-match suspension, while Josh Green and Pearce Hanley have been declared fit to play following hamstring troubles.

The trio are all established members of the Lions’ best 22, so you would predict that three players will have to make way for their return.

The omissions could increase further, however, with a number of players pressing their case for senior selection in the Reserves’ stunning 23-point NEAFL win over Aspley last Saturday.

Experienced senior players James Polkinghorne, Andrew Raines and Ryan Harwood were all among the Lions’ best against the Hornets, while rookie Zac O’Brien is getting closer to his AFL debut following another standout midfield performance.

So there should be plenty of discussion at the selection table for Justin Leppitsch and his coaching staff, will be looking for the right mix to claim the Club’s first win of the season.
