As has become common practice in the AFL, those players who experienced their first ever win with the Brisbane Lions last Friday were front and centre in the post-match huddle as the Club belted out the team song.

And while the ritual is generally played out with one – perhaps even two – players, the Lions’ ‘inner huddle’ featured a remarkable seven!

James Aish, Lewis Taylor, Nick Robertson, Darcy Gardiner, Tom Cutler, Luke McGuane and Trent West were all stars of the Lions’ post-game celebrations, and each was showered in every colour of the Gatorade rainbow.

Speaking exclusively with LIONS TV in the changerooms, Aish said it was a special feeling.

“It’s what you play for, so I’m really pumped for the team,” Aish said.

“We’ve worked really hard, but haven’t really had the reward.

“We were pretty desperate to win, and the communication was really good. We wanted to stick together and tough it out for the win.”

Aish produced arguably the finest performance of his young AFL career against St Kilda, and has quickly become a valuable member of the side in just his first season.

“I was a bit more involved for a more consistent period,” he told LIONS TV.

“I’ve had patches in other games where I’ve gone missing a little bit.”
