Brisbane Lions Utility Brent Staker is facing another extended stint on the sidelines after scans revealed a stress fracture of the foot.

Staker, who has missed the entire 2014 season to date after suffering a calf tendon injury in the Lions' first intraclub trial in early February,  was due to make his return through the NEAFL this weekend.

Unfortunately Staker is now facing a further 8-10 weeks on the sideline.

Lions General Manager -Football Operations, Dean Warren, said the injury was a huge disappointment for Brent.

“Brent has had a horror run with injury this year, so to suffer a setback like this so close to a return to footy is extremely disappointing for him” Warren said.

“He will now turn his focus to ensuring that he is fit and healthy for the commencement of the pre-season. He will approach his rehabilitation with the same optimism and dedication as he has previously.”

In other disappointing news for the Club, midfielder Jack Redden has a suspected stress fracture in his left ankle.

Redden, who was due to play his 113th consecutive game from debut this week, drawing him level with Steve Wallis as the fourth-longest streak from debut in VFL/AFL history, will see the specialist later this week to determine a recovery timeline.
