Jack Redden will have to settle with having the fifth longest ever streak of consecutive AFL games from debut.

Redden was set to play his 113th straight match this Saturday against a Richmond, and in the process move into equal fourth overall on the ‘streak list’ along with Footscray’s Steve Wallis.

However, a leg injury will force the 23-year-old to watch the match from the sidelines – the first time he’s done so in five years.

Redden’s phenomenal feat remains the longest streak from debut of any player in the Lions’ merged history, yet it ranks second to Fitzroy’s John Murphy (158 games) in terms of the Club’s all-time record.

Marcus Ashcroft, meanwhile, still holds the longest ever streak of consecutive games at the Club (not necessarily from debut) with 170 in-a-row from Round 22 1992 to Round 8 2000.

Redden’s absence means that Dayne Zorko now boasts the longest streak of consecutive games by any current Lions player.

Zorko has played 52 straight senior matches since his debut in 2012 – one more than Captain Jed Adcock who’s up to 51 in-a-row.

Joel Patfull’s run of 52 straight games came to an end earlier this season when a bout of gastro forced him to withdraw late from the team to play North Melbourne in Round 9 at Etihad Stadium.
