The Brisbane Lions and Andrew Raines have agreed that Raines will depart the Club to seek other opportunities.

After indicating his desire to play on beyond 2014, Raines, whose contract with the Lions expired at the end of the season, will depart the Club to seek further opportunity.

Raines played just 4 senior games in 2014, but has played a significant role mentoring many of the Lions young midfield group in the NEAFL.

Originally drafted by Richmond with Pick No.76 in the 2003 AFL National draft, Raines arrived at the Lions during the 2009 trade period.

Raines has played a total 67 games for Lions, including his 100th game against Port Adelaide in 2012.

Raines was the Lions Most Professional Player (2012), and a member of the Lions 2013 NAB Cup Premiership side.

Lions General Manager, Football Operations, Dean Warren, said:

“Rainsey has been a fantastic member of the Lions family since coming on board back in 2009.

“He has consistently set a fantastic example to our younger players of just what it takes to be a professional AFL player, and we wish him all the very best for whatever his future holds.”
