Thanks to Platinum Partner, Hyundai, every Brisbane Lions member who attended all eligible matches with their 2014 membership (including both Queensland and Victoria) was given an opportunity to WIN a brand new Hyundai i30.

Last week, five lucky members were randomly selected to participate in the Hyundai prize draw, which was held in the Lion Park at half-time of last Sunday’s final home match of the season against Fremantle.

Four of the five members were in attendance on the day, while the fifth – a loyal Victorian-based member – was listening intently over the phone with the help of a Club representative.

Joining the members were five Lions players, all of which held a different set of Hyundai i30 keys.

Each member was then invited to randomly select an item from a barrel – inside of which was a corresponding guernsey to each of the players present.

The first three members drew their guernseys and tried the keys with no luck, before Sharon Geurts plucked Brent Staker’s #14 guernsey, which proved the winner!

Upon receiving a set of keys from Staker, Sharon pressed the button with anticipation, and screamed with delight as the lights to the Hyundai i30 started flashing, signalling her success.

Martin Him, Regional Sales Manager - Northern Region, Hyundai Motor Company Australia, was on hand to officially congratulate Sharon, who couldn’t believe her luck!

“I honestly didn’t think that I would win. I didn’t think I had a chance,” Sharon told lions.com.au.

“But when it came down to just two people – me and the Victorian member – I started to think it might happen. I had a 50/50 chance.

“I was delighted. I couldn’t believe that I’d won. I mean, who wins a car?!

“I would really like to thank the Brisbane Lions and Hyundai. I was a bit overwhelmed on the day and I think I forgot to thank them.”

It was a fitting reward for a long-time member whose family outings are often spent at the Gabba.

“We enjoy going to the football as a family. We live close to the Gabba, so we can walk there and back,” she said.

And as for her plans for the new Hyundai i30…

“I have a 14-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son,” Sharon said.

“My son is about to get his L plates in October, so the car I’m driving now will become his, and I’ll have the new one.”
