One of the great journeymen of the AFL, Ben Hudson, is no stranger to Brisbane Lions fans having played one season in the maroon, blue and gold back in 2012.

Hudson then headed to Collingwood for a couple of years, before returning to his home state of Queensland to take on a full-time ruck coaching role with the Lions.

Lions ruckman Stefan Martin, who coincidentally arrived in Brisbane a month after Hudson’s departure, will now get the chance to learn directly from the 168-game veteran.

“We played against each other a few times…I had a bit of a chat with him this morning and he’s a really good fella,” Martin said upon returning to Lions pre-training on Monday.

Martin and fellow ruckman Matthew Leuenberger will be vying for that number ruck position during the pre-season, with Trent West set for a delayed start while he recovers from a knee reconstruction.

Martin says he’s now looking forward to working on “strategy stuff”.

“I still haven’t clearly defined my role in my first day back, so I’ll have to suss that out with (Hudson),” he said.

“I just have to find ways to have a bigger impact on the game, running patterns and stuff like that.”

Martin is also one of many Lions doing his part to help the ‘Movember’ cause designed to raise awareness for men’s health issues.

Although he admits his ‘mo’ is still a work in progress, Lions fans can help support the cause by visiting Martin’s Instagram page @stefan_martin or simply donating via the official Movember website.
