The much-hyped Phantom Draft was published on afl.com.au on Wednesday morning, with resident draft expert Callum Twomey sharing his predictions surrounding who will go where at this Thursday’s NAB AFL Draft.

The task was even more difficult when it came to speculating on the Brisbane Lions’ potential selections, particularly considering the Club won’t be active until Pick No.65.

The Lions will have three live selections available to them – Picks 65, 73 and 81 – but are not guaranteed to use all of them.

The Lions have actually moved their way up the draft order following the recent list lodgements with the AFL, with some clubs forgoing their later picks due to insufficient space on their primary lists.

It’s worth noting that the Lions have already committed to selecting Hyundai Help for Kids Lions Academy pair Liam Dawson (with Pick 44) and Harris Andrews (Pick 61), as well as Father-Son prospect Josh Clayton (with Pick 86).

Twomey, who not only has an intimate knowledge of the 2014 draft pool but also boasts strong relationships with club recruiters from across the AFL, suggested a handful of players that might be on the Lions’ radar.

“There will be some talent around at the Lions' first two live selections - No.65 and 73,” Twomey wrote on afl.com.au.

“At 65, the Lions could look to add another running tall defender in Tasmanian Josh McGuinness. At 189cm, he collects plenty of disposals and uses them well.

“Speedy midfielder Jaden McGrath will be considered should he get through after an injury-interrupted season, as with hard-running midfielder Teia Miles.

“Academy player Matt Hammelmann is more likely as a rookie than national draftee for the Lions, given they have first access to him then. They are unlikely to use pick 81, but will decide on draft night.”
