We kicked off Day One of pre-season camp in Noosa yesterday.

After a light hit-out at the Gabba, we got a text from Manny Lynch telling us to make our way up the Highway to Aussie World.

We had no real information on what we would be doing or what to expect. All we did know was this:

  • There are four teams: Blue, White, Yellow and Maroon (I’m Captain of the Maroon team)
  • We all have a garden gnome which we have decorated to represent ourselves, and we must be aware of his whereabouts at all time
  • Team Captains and Vice Captains will be getting sent text messages with information on where we need to be and when we need to be there. It is our job to get this information out to our teams.
  • In every activity we are competing for Lions dollars. A note with Leppa’s head on it is worth $100 and our property steward, Hawkey, features on the $10

Once we arrived at Aussie World we were told to chuck the camo on and head into the paintball arena.

The task was to capture the opposition’s flag. On our first run Team Maroon managed to capture both flags, but the second time around we weren’t so successful.

The White team faced an early setback when Dayne Beams’ gnome became a casualty.

He suffered severe injuries after falling off a table. It is not sure whether or not this was an act of sabotage or a case of negligence on the behalf of the white team. Either way I’m sure a suitable fine will be dished out at dinner tonight.

With paintball done and dusted it was off to the RACV Resort Noosa to set up camp for the rest of the week. We were also tasked with performing our very own team song.

Besides Jono Freeman there wasn’t too many of us who could hold a note, but Ryan Harwood sure made up for his lack of vocal skills with some elite dance moves.

In the end it was the Maroon team who took out victory for Day 1 and scored the Lions dollars. I might be biased but I reckon Maroon team are odds on win the whole thing!

Cheers
