The Brisbane Lions are one of the few AFL clubs that are yet to lose a senior player via Free Agency.
It is both a reflection of the Lions’ youthful list, and the Club’s careful list management strategy that they have so far been able to avoid any raids from rival teams.
Since its inception a few years ago, only a handful of players have actually qualified for Free Agency at the Lions, and all bar one are either still at the Gabba or retired as one-club players.
The exception is Joel Patfull, who requested a trade to the GWS Giants over the off-season. But even Patfull rejected the lure of Free Agency when he was last out of contract.
In 2015, the Lions will once again have one of the fewest numbers of eligible Free Agents in the competition with just two – Jed Adcock and Matthew Leuenberger.
Only Collingwood will have fewer, with Brent MacCaffer their sole Free Agent.
Other clubs, such as North Melbourne and Geelong, boast up to seven players who can consider offers from opposition sides at the end of next season.
While the Lions will be looking to secure new contracts for both Adcock and Leuenberger first and foremost, the Club will also no doubt be casting a close eye over the talent that might be available in the 2015 Free Agency pool.
To be eligible for Free Agency, a player needs to have spent eight or more seasons at the one club.
