Leigh Matthews has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the Brisbane Lions Australian Football Club.

Matthews, who will continue his current role of Football Director, was chosen for the Deputy position at a Board Meeting of the seven Club Directors last week.

The meeting also saw Bob Sharpless reappointed Club Chairman, Andrew Wellington reappointed Chair of the Finance Committee, and Sarah Kelly again chosen to lead up the Brand and Marketing Committee, which will also feature newly-elected Director Ross Thornton.

Sharpless said the wide variety of skill sets on the Board were being used to help the Club as it transitioned back to success both on and off the field.

“Our membership has surged past 20,000 – more than 1,000 ahead of the same time last year,’ said Sharpless.

“We have just launched our “Get To The Gabba” campaign with ticket sales for the Round One blockbuster against Collingwood at the Gabba on Saturday, April 4, currently double the number sold at the same time in 2014 for our opening home game.

“And fans can’t get enough of the new 2015 guernseys, sporting the traditional Lions emblem, with almost 2,500 sold after members voted to bring it back this season.

“Our Directors are pleased to be playing their role in the Club’s renaissance along with the players, coaches, administration, sponsors and our valued members.”
