The AFL’s ANZAC Round commemorates and acknowledges the great sacrifice that our servicemen and women made, and continue to make, to ensure our borders are safe for future generations.

One such way the Brisbane Lions are acknowledging these individuals who epitomise such selflessness is through their partnership with local armed forces the 7th Brigade and their charity of choice, “Wounded Heroes”.

Wounded Heroes is a nationally registered charity, operated by volunteers, which provides significant support to servicemen and women and their families. Though they may not like to spruik it, their successes have proven to be growing in numbers with absolute consistency and attention to the real issues at hand for our armed personnel. Post Traumatic Stress is their biggest concern, and they are continuously sourcing help, and funding for medications, special care, and Post Traumatic Stress even for the children of returned service personnel.

The work Wounded Heroes has done has allowed them to tell some beautiful, emotional success stories for some of our defence force children who have come through their treatments for Post Traumatic Stress, and are only now just starting to live as other children do every day, without thinking about it.

It is through seeing miracles such as these that they strive more and more for the pure selflessness of these humble people. They offer immediate crisis funding within 24-48 hours, as well as help with duties such as lawn mowing, help with meals, groceries, school tutoring and drop-off and pick-up, household needs, bills, and anything that we all endure in day to day living.

It is no secret our defence families need even more support emotionally, physically and financially, and that's what Wounded Heroes strives to do every single day of the year, including Christmas Day.

The money raised at Wounded Heroes goes directly to a family in need, in their time of need. Often they are the last contact and so Wounded Heroes endeavours to provide assistance by providing a quick turnaround of funds. All requests come through ADF command, so are approved as a genuine and more often than not, urgent need.

The Brisbane Lions will endeavour to honour these selfless people and the ANZACs by wearing a one-off event guernsey for their ANZAC Round clash against West Coast at the Gabba this Sunday, the purchases of which will directly support “Wounded Heroes” and their endeavours mentioned above.

A limited edition run of retail guernseys are available for purchase exclusively from the Lions Shop and online at www.lionsshop.com.au.

Player issued and signed match-worn guernseys will be available via our online auction site HERE from the first bounce at 1:10pm (AEST) this Sunday and will run for seven days until 1:10pm (AEST) on Sunday 3 May.

The Brisbane Lions sincerely hope this initiative can further help Wounded Heroes and we urge our members and fans to own a piece of history while helping contribute towards a noble and great cause.
