Please find below Coach Shane Woewodin’s appraisal on each of the listed Lions who played on the weekend.

Matthew Leuenberger

A solid game from Leuey – 10 clearances from a big guy was really impressive. Didn’t take any marks this week which has been his focus. Played a lone hand in the ruck for us, competed well at stoppages and gave our mids a bit of a look at it. Probably got to get him forward now looking to mark a bit more.

Zac O’BrienProvided a bit of leadership for us, worked really hard as an inside mid throughout the day. His work rate was very good, kept batting up until the end of the game. Probably lost his partner in crime as the game went on but overall a solid display from Zac.
Ryan LesterA pretty good game from Ryan before we took him off at three quarter time as the emergency for the one’s. His driving leg was terrific, his work rate and intensity to spread from stoppage was a highlight of his game along with his direction on field.
Billy Evans

Probably struggled this week, went backwards on his last week against Redlands. Probably handballed the ball a bit too much and didn’t work as hard as what he had done the previous week. Still a big learning curve for Billy as a first year player.

Josh McGuinnessPlayed well Josh, a new role again on the wing for us. Took a couple of intercept marks when he went down back in the last quarter, certainly improving as a player and will continue to play those two roles for the next couple of weeks.
Josh ClaytonAgain a different role for Josh – played him on the wing, just to get him out of the forward line for a little bit. Looking to improve his take on tackling and absorbing the pressure a bit more, but it was good to see him find the footy and have nearly 30 for the day.
Brent StakerProbably best on ground for us, could have really dominated the game if he had of kicked straight – 5.9 and one out on the full, was a pretty impressive display, just let himself down with his polishing off in front of goal.
Matt HammelmannMatty Hammelmann, kicked five and improved on last week’s performance where he only had two possessions. Still working hard on his marking and on his second efforts at ground level for a forward but it was good to see him hit the scoreboard again.
Matt MaguireMatty Maguire came back from the seniors on the weekend, very solid in defence as our gate keeper down there and our general in defence. Worked really hard in the game until he was knocked out in the third quarter, hopefully he gets to play this weekend after concussion testing.
Jackson PaineFirst game back and again injured. He was outstanding in his two and a half quarters as a key back. Played on a guy who kicked 14 goals last week and kept him scoreless, unfortunately with an ankle injury he may miss a few weeks with that. He showed some really good form and probably would have been pressing for senior selection if not having been injured with his display as a defender.
Jordon BourkeIn and out of the game again this week, Jordon. There was a couple of good things in defence with his spoiling and his contest work, he then drifted out of the game. Probably got marked on a bit late in the game, so we just need to try to find some consistency with Bourkey.
Hugh BeasleyGood to get him back after his surfing accident, solid in the contest, found a bit of the ball as a key defender, which was really good. Solid in the contest, looking to get his starting points right when going in marking contests.
Ryan HarwoodBack from long term injury, started the game in the second quarter and had an impact when he came on the ground. Driving legs, used the ball pretty well, didn’t get beaten in the contests, he was good first up.
