MATTHEW LEUENBERGER will mark 100 games for the Lions on Sunday against St Kilda at the Gabba.

The 203cm ruckman has spent much of his career battling injury. He played just five games in 2014 after suffering a knee injury that kept him sidelined for the majority of the year.

Leuenberger was drafted from East Perth in the WAFL in 2006, but it’s taken nine years to reach the milestone.

“I’m looking forward to it, I thought a couple of years ago I might have got to this moment, it’s taken a little while so I’m just going to enjoy it. I’m pretty proud to have got there,” Leuenberger told Lions TV.

“It’s just been a setback after another little setback, so to finally get there, I’m looking forward to it.”

Leuenberger’s family will arrive from Perth and his partner Jess and newborn son Luca will also join him to celebrate on Sunday.

“I’ll take my little boy out with me, hopefully he enjoys it, he’s five months old, so we’ll see how it goes.

“That’s probably the thing I’m looking forward to the most, he won’t remember it but maybe there will be a photo or something I can show him one day.”

Leuenberger will follow coach Justin Leppitsch as a fellow number 23 to reach 100 games.

“He’s talked about it since the day I got to the Club.

“He’s pretty hard to beat isn’t he? He’s a fair player, I’ll give it to him”, Leuenberger said.
