They probably didn’t know it at the time, but Jed Adcock, Justin Clarke, and Zac O’Brien all etched themselves into the Brisbane Lions’ record books following last Saturday’s stirring win over the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba.

Adcock lined up for his 206th, and final, senior match for the Club – equalling former Fitzroy Best and Fairest Warwick Irwin’s record of most games played in the Number 7 guernsey.

Adcock and Irwin now share the honour of having donned the Number 7 more times than any other player in the Club’s combined history (Fitzroy and Bears included).

They’re in some pretty rare company, with Brownlow Medallist and Hall of Famer Allan Ruthven next best with 184 games, followed by triple Brownlow Medal-winner and Club Legend, Haydn Bunton (119 games).

Clarke, meanwhile, set a new benchmark in the Number 42 when he ran out for his 56th senior match for the Club – overtaking former Bear/Lion Tristan Lynch who’d held the record since 1998.

O’Brien also earned the honour of being the ‘most capped’ Number 47 in Club history, when he was a late inclusion after Brent Staker injured himself in the pre-game warm-up.

Despite playing just his 13th senior AFL match, it was enough to elevate O’Brien ahead of former teammate Jack Crisp, who held the previous record of 12 games in the Number 47.
