Club legend Simon Black will be on the Sunshine Coast with former Lions teammate Brent Moloney this Wednesday February 3, to attend the Open Day of his latest academy.

Based in Brisbane, Melbourne and now the University of the Sunshine Coast, the Simon Black Australian Rules Academy is Australia’s first private footy academy for young men and women age 16 or over who want to take their football to an elite level whilst completing further studies.

Moloney, who played 166 games in the AFL over 12 years has been appointed by Black as Football Director/Coach on the Sunshine Coast. He’ll bring his 12 years of professional AFL experience to the role, which includes 166 games, a rising star nomination in 2003, International Rules representation 2005, the Melbourne Club Champion Award in 2011 and two seasons with the Lions in 2013 and 2014.

Off the field, the 12-month long, VET FEE approved, full-time course also includes a Certificate III and IV in fitness, along with Umpiring Accreditation and a Diploma of Business which can provide 6 – 12 months of credit to university courses.

The Sunshine Coast academy is the first to be positioned inside a university. Academy students will get access to the university’s state of the art Olympic pool, gym, track and field facility and indoor sports hall. An Exercise Science student will also be assigned to each academy participant.

The Feb 3 Open Day is free and everyone is welcome. It will include a 30-45 minute kick of the footy with Simon Black and a sausage sizzle.

Students and parents interested in the Academy should make contact as soon as possible, with the cut-off date for enrolments set for Feb 15, 2016.
