Allen Christensen is relishing a new pre-season. Free from injury, he’s hoping to have a bigger impact on the scoreboard in 2016.

The 24-year-old was full of praise for the Lions' newest recruits and hopes that their presence in the midfield will allow him to assert himself up forward – a role he feels most at home.

“We’ve obviously got Ryan Bastinac and Tom Bell who can roll through the midfield as well – we’ve recruited pretty well,” Christensen told LionsTV.

“I just have to wait and see. If I’m needed in there (midfield), I know I can go in and do a job. But, I think that half forward role is where I can make a huge difference getting high up the ground and kicking a few goals.”

Now free from injury, Christensen has put together a solid second pre-season at the Lions and is determined to make an impact.

“I’m at a completely different stage to where I was last year.

“Obviously coming from Geelong, I had back surgery in September and didn’t start running pretty much until the end of January. I was a long way behind the eight ball,” he said.

“This year I came back from holidays really fit. It was something I wanted to do coming into this preseason – have a big impact and show what I can do.”

Christensen said the injury that halted his first pre-season at the Club would always have to be managed but he felt he was on top of it.

“I do a lot of Pilates and stuff away from the footy club that makes sure my back is nice and stable and the muscles and all of that are holding together really well.

“I think the worst of it's behind me, I feel really good. I’ve nearly done every session this year.”

Brisbane will complete a final match simulation training session at Burpengary on Friday before the NAB Challenge opener against Gold Coast on February 21.

“It’s exciting for the boys to get to play against some other opposition – test out the strategies and game plan that we’ve been working on over pre-season.

“I think we’re all looking forward to it.”
