The Brisbane Lions must be bold with their ball movement according to Assistant Coach Murray Davis.

In the wash-up from Saturday’s 49-point loss to the Eagles, Davis addressed the Lions’ offensive passages of play.

Brisbane had 110 more disposals than the Eagles, but often chipped the ball sideways and backwards and went inside their forward 50 five fewer times than West Coast.

“We had a question about our offense; Why do we keep going sidewards and backwards and not forwards?,” Murray Davis told this week’s Vero Coaches Wrap.

Referring to a passage of play Davis said: “You’ll see there are a lot of players in what we call the bubble. In this little bubble we had 34 players.”

“What we’re trying to do is to get outside that bubble. To do that we need to be able to move the ball quickly and make advantage of where our spare players are.”

“We’re encouraging our players to be bold with their ball movement.

“It’s about quick movement, being able to shift the defence, move the opposition defence and then get the ball over the back. That’s something we’ll continue to keep working on.”
