The Brisbane Lions Reserves have finished off the 2016 NEAFL season with a heavy defeat at the hands of the WSU Giants, going down 28.17 (185) – 7.4 (46) at Spotless Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Billy Evans and Jarrad Jansen fought hard with 24 disposals apiece, whilst Liam Dawson was ferocious with 14 tackles.

The Giants forwards had a field day against their inexperienced opponents, with James Stewart (8 goals), Rhys Palmer (6), Tom Downie (4) and Sam Reid (3.6) all keeping the scoreboard attendants busy.

It was an ill-fitting farewell to Trent West, who has retired after 70 AFL games with a 2011 Premiership medallion under his belt from his Geelong days.

Despite playing just ten games, Eric Hipwood takes out the title of the reserves leading goalkicker for 2016, amazingly with just 13, edging out Josh Walker (12) and Jono Freeman (11).

The Lions finish with the wooden spoon and a 3-15 record after a season decimated by injury, whilst the Giants have finished 2nd, and will have the week off before facing either Sydney University or the Gold Coast Suns reserves in a preliminary final.

The Sydney Swans finished minor premiers, whilst the Suns snuck into the finals with a record of 8-10 after a dramatic 4-point win over Aspley on Saturday.
