Today marks the beginning of the 2016 NAB AFL Trade Period.

AFL.com.au's Nick Bowen and Peter Ryan preview the period for each Club:

Adelaide

Draft selections: 13, 50, 68, 86, 104
Unsigned free agents: Ricky Henderson (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: Matthew Jaensch (ret), Luke Lowden, Keenan Ramsey, Nathan van Berlo (ret)

AFL.com.au says: Adelaide is chasing an elite midfielder and, despite management pouring cold water on the speculation, there has been genuine interest in Carlton midfielder Bryce Gibbs. The former South Australian is an attractive target for the Crows, who are chasing quality midfield depth. Lions skipper Tom Rockliff has also been linked to the club. The Crows are playing a wait-and-see game with free agent Ricky Henderson and out-of-contract midfielder Jarryd Lyons, while Ricky Henderson looks set to explore his free agency options.

Brisbane

Draft selections: 2, 19 (priority pick received from AFL), 21, 29, 48, 57, 75, 93
Unsigned free agents: N/A
Delistings/retirements: Hugh Beasley, Justin Clarke (ret), Billy Evans, Josh McGuinness, Daniel Merrett (ret), Jackson Paine, Josh Watts, Trent West (ret)

AFL.com.au says: Tom Rockliff is contracted for 2017 but speculation about his future won't go away. Adelaide has been the club linked most strongly with the Lions' skipper. Pearce Hanley is also contracted for next season but appears likely to move, most likely to Gold Coast, with the Lions seeking a top-10 pick for the dashing defender. Small forward Josh Green is also open to a trade, while out-of-contract defender Darcy Gardiner's talks with the club continue to drag on. After Daniel Merrett's retirement, the Lions are looking to bolster their backline, with tall defenders Jack Frost (Collingwood) and Lynden Dunn (Melbourne) among their targets.

  Trade targets by the stats

Carlton

Draft selections: 5, 24, 42, 55, 78, 96
Unsigned free agents: Dennis Armfield (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: Matthew Dick, Jayden Foster, Michael Jamison (ret), Clem Smith, Andrew Walker (ret), Cameron Wood (ret)

AFL.com.au says: The Blues' main trade target is GWS key defender Caleb Marchbank. It seems their first-round pick, No.5 overall, will be required to complete the trade, with the Giants also likely to send a later pick back to the Blues and/or a player such as key forward James Stewart. Carlton is also interested in Giants speedster Jarrod Pickett, the No.4 pick in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft. The Blues have offered Zach Tuohy a three-year deal, but several rival clubs are circling the out-of-contract defender. Star midfielder Bryce Gibbs was linked with a move to Adelaide this week, but his management strongly refuted the report.

Collingwood

Draft selections: 26, 44, 62, 80, 98
Unsigned free agents: Jarryd Blair (unrestricted), Nathan Brown (restricted)
Delistings/retirements: Tim Golds, Matthew Goodyear, Brent Macaffer (ret), Dane Swan (ret), Alan Toovey (ret), Darrean Wyatt

AFL.com.au says: Fremantle forward Chris Mayne is likely to join the Magpies on a four-year deal as a free agent, while Daniel Wells is also expected to add pace and class to the midfield. Despite being linked to former Kangaroos Brent Harvey and Nick Dal Santo, the Magpies won't be going down that track, with Harvey since confirming his retirement at the Kangaroos' best and fairest. However, they are hopeful of luring Greater Western Sydney forward Will Hoskin-Elliott. Key defender Nathan Brown, who is a free agent, is weighing up his options while Jack Frost is set to join the Brisbane Lions.

Essendon

Draft selections: 1, 20, 38, 56, 74, 92
Unsigned free agents: Courtenay Dempsey (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: Jason Ashby, Adam Cooney (ret), Ryan Crowley, Matt Dea, Shaun Edwards, Nathan Grima, Sam Grimley, James Gwilt, Mark Jamar, James Kelly, Sam Michael, Tayte Pears (ret), James Polkinghorne, Jonathan Simpkin, Mathew Stokes (ret), Tom Wallis

AFL.com.au says: Holds the No.1 pick but is open to potential offers from other clubs. The Bombers may look to turn that prized selection into a couple of picks given the success they have had in recent seasons selecting Jayden Laverde, Kyle Langford, Darcy Parish and Aaron Francis with top-20 picks. They should also net another pick in the 20s for Michael Hibberd, who is set to join Melbourne. The Bombers have some interest in out-of-favour West Coast defender Eric Mackenzie and will also explore some speedy options for outside run.

Fremantle

Draft selections: 3, 40, 58, 76, 94
Unsigned free agents: Zac Clarke (unrestricted), Chris Mayne (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: Matt de Boer, Josh Deluca, Brady Grey, Jack Hannath, Sean Hurley, Anthony Morabito, Tendai Mzungu, Matthew Pavlich (ret), Clancee Pearce, Tanner Smith

AFL.com.au says: The Dockers should snare wingman Bradley Hill in a trade with Hawthorn and are also keen to bolster their forward line with talls Cameron McCarthy (Greater Western Sydney) and Shane Kersten (Geelong). Contracted small forward Hayden Ballantyne is seeking a trade to West Coast but has also attracted interest in Victoria. Free agent Chris Mayne is expected to join Collingwood on a four-year deal believed to worth more than $500,000 a season, which should net the Dockers a second-round compensation pick. Fellow free agent Zac Clarke is expected to make a decision on his future soon after attracting interest from several rival suitors, while midfielder Michael Barlow could also depart. Midfielder Nick Suban is contracted for 2017 but is on the trade table.

Geelong

Draft selections: 35, 39, 53, 71, 88, 89, 107
Unsigned free agents: Jimmy Bartel (unrestricted), Tom Lonergan (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: Zac Bates, Jock Cornell, Cameron Delaney, Corey Enright (ret), Padraig Lucey, Tom Read

AFL.com.au says: Big decisions likely to be made at the Cats this off-season, with contracted forward/midfielder Steve Motlop the primary focus. Motlop becomes a free agent at the end of next season but he should attract value after kicking 38 goals this season. Gold Coast is sure to have a look given the number of high picks it has in its hands. Richmond has reportedly met with Motlop and may be tempted to consider a swap for veteran midfielder Brett Deledio, who the Cats like.  Fremantle is one of a number of clubs interested in Shane Kersten, while medical reports will determine Nathan Vardy's worth at the trade table.

Gold Coast

Draft selections: 4, 8, 22, 23, 25, 28, 41, 59, 77, 95
Unsigned free agents: N/A
Delistings/retirements: Tom Keough, Luke Russell, Danny Stanley, Seb Tape

AFL.com.au says: Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia's desire to join Hawthorn and Richmond respectively opens opportunities for the Suns, who want a mix between quality players and high draft picks. The Suns have been linked to Lions defender Pearce Hanley, are keen on Collingwood ruckman Jarrod Witts, and will chase pick No.6 for Prestia to add to their six selections inside the first 28. From there they can go shopping, but will focus on the draft if they can't secure quality players through trades. Expect the Suns to make the Hawks work hard for O'Meara.

GWS

Draft selections: 7, 15, 16, 32, 34, 52, 70, 106
Unsigned free agents: N/A
Delistings/retirements: N/A

AFL.com.au says: The Giants' stockpile of young talent will again be raided by rival clubs this trade period, with Caleb Marchbank (Carlton), Will Hoskin-Elliott (Collingwood), Cameron McCarthy (Fremantle), Jack Steele (St Kilda) and James Stewart (Carlton or Collingwood) all set to depart. GWS could make a bold bid to snare the No.1 draft pick from Essendon, a move that will depend on it securing pick No.5 from Carlton as part of the Marchbank trade, then forwarding that selection and pick No.7 to the Bombers. If Essendon agrees to that deal, the Giants are believed to have explosive Sandringham Dragons half-back Andrew McGrath in mind at pick No.1. GWS is one of several clubs that have expressed interest in big men Nathan Vardy (Geelong) and Jarrod Witts (Collingwood).

Hawthorn

Draft selections: 14, 33, 51, 69, 87, 105
Unsigned free agents: N/A
Delistings/retirements: Shem-Kalvin Tatupu

AFL.com.au says: The Hawks are going to have their hands full brokering trades for Sun Jaeger O'Meara and Swan Tom Mitchell, and will be hoping Richmond don't match their offer for restricted free agent Tyrone Vickery in an attempt to force them into another trade. Bradley Hill's likely move to Fremantle could secure a draft pick – most likely the second-round compensation pick the Dockers are expected to receive when free agent Chris Mayne departs – that helps Hawthorn complete these trades, but it will almost certainly have to part with a player too, with Luke Breust and Will Langford among the possible trade pawns. Emerging key defender Kaiden Brand looks set to ask for a trade after resisting the Hawks' recent attempts to re-sign him beyond 2016, but free agent Brendan Whitecross has satisfied a trigger clause to play on at Waverley in 2017.

Melbourne

Draft selections: 27, 45, 63, 81, 99
Unsigned free agents: N/A
Delistings/retirements: Jack Grimes, Matt Jones, Dean Terlich

AFL.com.au says: Michael Hibberd is first on the shopping list with the club and player committed to each other. Selection No.26 should be enough to get Hibberd, although Essendon has been historically tough to deal with at trade time. The Demons will want another ruckman to support Max Gawn while they are open to trading Lynden Dunn to the Brisbane Lions.

North Melbourne

Draft selections: 11, 30, 66, 84, 102
Unsigned free agents: Daniel Wells (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: Nick Dal Santo, Michael Firrito (ret), Brent Harvey (ret), Robin Nahas, Drew Petrie, Farren Ray (ret)

AFL.com.au says: Daniel Wells is set to join the recent exodus of veterans from Arden Street and take up a three-year offer at Collingwood believed to be worth up to $600,000 a season, a deal North is hoping will earn it an end-of-first-round compensation pick. The Roos have been linked with Chris Mayne, Nathan Brown and Zach Tuohy, but are believed to have cooled on all three after deciding to 'reset' their list late this season. North is keen to fast-track that process by acquiring extra first-round draft picks but will only trade star ruckman Todd Goldstein if offered an exceptional deal. The Roos are also keen to bolster their ruck stocks with a mature-age recruit.

Port Adelaide

Draft selections: 9, 46, 64, 82, 100
Unsigned free agents: Paul Stewart (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: John Butcher, Alipate Carlile (ret), Sam Colquhoun, Kane Mitchell, Jay Schulz

AFL.com.au says: The Power have signalled they will be aggressive players this October as they look to rejuvenate their list with elite young talent at the draft, even putting vice-captain Hamish Hartlett on the trade table. Hartlett flew into Melbourne to explore a move to a Victorian club, but he has since indicated he will stay with the Power in 2017. Contracted ruckman Matthew Lobbe is also likely to move in search of more opportunity with Paddy Ryder set to assume Port's No.1 ruck role upon his return from a WADA suspension. Although the Power's focus is on securing early draft picks, they have expressed interest in Geelong tall Nathan Vardy.

Richmond

Draft selections: 6, 43, 61, 79, 97
Unsigned free agents: Ty Vickery (restricted)
Delistings/retirements: Troy Chaplin (ret), Adam Marcon, Liam McBean, Reece McKenzie (ret)

AFL.com.au says: After missing out on several big-name recruits in recent years, the Tigers convinced Suns midfielder Dion Prestia to nominate Punt Road as his preferred new home. The Tigers will probably have to send pick No.6 to Gold Coast to get the deal done, but could receive one of the Suns' four second-round picks or a fringe Sun in addition to Prestia. Richmond made a big play for Geelong speedster Steven Motlop last year and rival clubs suspect they could renew that interest this year, possibly as part of an exchange for star veteran Brett Deledio. Despite constant denials from club and player, Deledio, 29, seems likely to depart as the Tigers seek to refresh their list. Richmond will also look to bolster its ruck division, with Sydney Swans big man Toby Nankervis in its sights.

St Kilda

Draft selections: 10, 47, 65, 83, 101
Unsigned free agents: Sam Fisher (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: Tom Curren, Luke Delaney, Brenton Payne, Josh Saunders

AFL.com.au says: The Saints have convinced Greater Western Sydney midfielder Jack Steele to nominate them as his preferred club and must now do a deal with the Giants. They are also keen to attract a quality defender to support Jake Carlisle and the emerging Hugh Goddard once their veterans reach the end. Contracted Giants defender Adam Tomlinson will remain with the Giants but he is the type that would suit the Saints after Carlton won the race to secure Caleb Marchbank.

Sydney Swans

Draft selections: 17, 36, 54, 90, 108
Unsigned free agents: N/A
Delistings/retirements: Tom Derickx (ret), Kyle Galloway, Ben McGlynn (ret), Ted Richards (ret)

AFL.com.au says: The Swans will almost certainly lose midfielder Tom Mitchell to Hawthorn, but could receive a first-round draft pick in return. The Hawks already have their hands full trying to broker a deal with Gold Coast for Jaeger O'Meara, but should be able to offer the Swans either pick No.14 or their 2017 first-round pick for Mitchell. Uncontracted utility Dean Towers has attracted rival interest both in and outside Victoria and could leave in search of more regular senior games, but uncontracted tall Xavier Richards is expected to re-sign. Ruckman Toby Nankervis is expected to decide this week whether he wants a trade, with Richmond in the box seat, after not being able to cement a senior spot.

West Coast

Draft selections: 12, 31, 49, 67, 85, 103
Unsigned free agents: Mitch Brown (unrestricted), Sam Butler (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: Corey Adamson, Jamie Bennell (ret), Damien Cavka, (ret), Brant Colledge, Xavier Ellis (ret), Kane Lucas, Patrick McGinnity (ret), Alec Waterman

AFL.com.au says: West Coast is understood to be keen to retain free agent Mitch Brown, but understand Eric Mackenzie could explore other options. The Eagles' main priority is to add midfield depth where possible but obtaining quality midfielders is tough going. They remain hopeful of adding Hayden Ballantyne to the club for the right price, but may have to fight off interest from some eastern states clubs.

Western Bulldogs

Draft selections: 18, 37, 60, 72, 73, 91, 109
Unsigned free agents: Matthew Boyd (unrestricted), Will Minson (unrestricted)
Delistings/retirements: Jed Adcock (ret), Luke Goetz (ret), Will Minson

AFL.com.au says: The stunning premiership triumph didn't cause a re-think on Collingwood forward Travis Cloke, and he looks headed the Bulldogs' way. The Dogs will also welcome back Stewart Crameri from WADA suspension, as well as Robert Murphy and Mitch Wallis from injury. Koby Stevens has attracted interest from Essendon and has a decision to make. Fringe Dogs Nathan Hrovat and Mitch Honeychurch are expected to seek opportunities elsewhere.
