General Manager of Football David Noble has reiterated that the Brisbane Lions are pleased with Tom Rockliff’s decision to remain at the Club, but has confirmed that all player leadership roles will be reviewed over the pre-season.

“We’re rapt that Tommy has decided to stay. The conversation that Chris and I had with him (Rockliff) and Tommy Petroro (Rockliff's manager) last week was really productive. There was no discussion around him deciding that he wanted to leave or us pushing him to the market,” Noble told SEN.

“It was more a discussion about where he was at. He wanted to investigate where Chris and myself were coming from and we’re absolutely rapt that he’s decided to commit to the Club 100%.”

When asked about the captaincy of Rockliff, Noble said: “All of the guys Chris has spoken to, not only Tom, but Richy (Daniel Rich) and Dayne Beams and a bunch of the other guys he’s spoken to are all accepting that there are areas of our football club and our game that we want to improve…

“I don’t think he’s (Tom’s) alone in that space but certainly it’s been a common thread that has been discussed with all those players as they’ve come through the introduction meetings with Chris.

“We’ll run a process like most clubs at the start of each year. That process will have some buy in with some players, have some values around it and some behaviours attached to it…

“All of that is open for discussion going forward. It’s an honourable position to be the captain of a football club. We need to make sure the guys that are in that leadership group are going to deliver on those behaviours.”
