Head of Development Scott Borlace admits the Lions' NEAFL side learnt that they cannot be complacent following their loss to Sydney at the SCG on Sunday.

The Lions had their first loss of 2017 against the Swans after they were undefeated from four matches.

“We learnt that we can’t be complacent in the position that we were in,” said Borlace.

“Sydney outworked us and out hunted us. We learnt that you can’t be that little bit off as a whole group and we were made to pay the price.”

“It was basically a case of contested ball. We were -20 contested ball for the day. We won clearances on the day but from clearances they outworked us, out hunted us and were able to score off the back of that.”

Borlace said although the loss was disappointing some players impressed in their individual efforts.

“Cedric Cox was solid from halfback. He provided plenty of run. We also put him in the midfield late to try to provide a bit of spark from there.

“Rohan Bewick found plenty of footy on the wing and generally used it really well. Bastinac had 28 disposals, kicked a couple of goals and had nine tackles as well, so it was a solid performance from him.”

The Lions will play Redland at Tidbold Park on Saturday, who are yet to register a win.

“We’re coming up against Leigh Harding who obviously knows a fair bit about our guys so I’d expect that they’d come out really fired up. They’d know a lot about us so we’d expect nothing different in terms of a fierce contest.

“We were really disappointed about how we went in terms of our trademark and how we want to be perceived as a footy team and I’d expect our guys to really respond from that.”
