Sam Skinner will make his football return this weekend following two ACL reconstructions.

The 20-year-old will play against Aspley on Saturday in the NEAFL – 303 days since he tore his left anterior cruciate ligament, requiring a full knee reconstruction.

Skinner was due to make his AFL debut against Port Adelaide at the Gabba that same week in Round 19.

It was a devastating blow for Skinner, who spent the early part of his time at the Lions in rehab from an ACL injury (to the same knee) sustained playing for Vic Country in 2015.

He was selected at pick No.47 in the 2015 National Draft and came to the Club halfway through his rehabilitation.

Brisbane Lions Head of Medical Peter Blanch said Skinner handled his rehab with great professionalism and dedication.

“Sam’s been really good for the past three or four months – really what we’ve been waiting for is just time to get past,” said Blanch.

“He’s been running, he’s strong in the gym, so he’s ready to go this weekend.”

Daniel McStay is also expected to return. McStay fractured his hand in the Round 7 loss to Sydney. He had a plate inserted to aid in his recovery.

Claye Beams has a grade one hamstring strain, but Blanch is hopeful he will return after the bye.

“He’s probably going to miss this week, but certainly he’ll be back after the bye.”

Meanwhile, Vice-Captain Tom Rockliff is still on track to return after the bye.

“He’s going pretty well, but he’s not going to be ready for this weekend. We’re still aiming for him to be up and going after the bye as well.”

Jack Frost (concussion) will be assessed later in the week.

“Jack’s going really well recovering from his concussion but we’re probably not going to make a decision on that until the end of the week.
