Motivation no issue for Gibson

Katie de Haer  June 22, 2017 2:36 PM

Brisbane Lions defender Brittany Gibson says the Lions will use the heartbreak of their AFLW Grand Final loss to Adelaide to drive the team one step further in Season 2018.

The Lions finished the home and away season undefeated before succumbing by six-points to Adelaide in a nail-biter at Metricon Stadium in March.

During the off-season, Gibson has been playing for Coorparoo, and admits her and her teammates will use the loss as extra motivation to go 'one better' as they move toward 2018.

“We’re all chomping at the bit to get back out there and start our season,” said Gibson.

“It (the loss) will just drive us that little bit further to train harder. We know what to expect now. I think we set the bar training wise and other teams are going to try and match that.

“Now we’ve got to step it up again and I think we’re all super excited to get the best out of ourselves and out of our team.

“We want to finish it off and go one better and actually win it.”

By day Gibson drives a forklift as a stevedore at Brisbane Port. The Tasmanian has adopted her new state, training with the Coorparoo AFC Women’s on weeknights and playing on weekend.

“I’ve got two new teams (Coorparoo and Lions) in a matter of six months. I’m enjoying it, having a bit of fun, still keeping up the footy skills but just having a bit of fun with it as well and meeting new people," said Gibson.

"I’ve only played the past two games we’ve had because I’ve had the bone bruising in the knee. I had to let that settle before I play. It’s a new environment for me because I’ve come from Tassie."
