Squad: Seven changes possible for Eagles clash

July 27, 2017 6:20 PM

Team Announcement: Round 19 Find out who's been selected in this weekends squad to take on the West Coast Eagles.

There could be up to seven changes to the Brisbane Lions side for Sunday’s match against the West Coast Eagles at Domain Stadium.

Young stars Jarrod Berry, Hugh McCluggage and Eric Hipwood have been rested this weekend due to the long travel to Perth and the ensuing six-day turnaround to the Lions Round 20 clash against the Western Bulldogs.

Michael Close has been recalled to the side and will take up Hipwood’s spot in the forward line.

Close has played six Senior matches this season and has kicked five goals. His last Senior appearance was back in Round 9 against the Adelaide Crows.

Jacob Allison, Sam Skinner and Corey Lyons have been named on an extended bench and could potentially make their AFL debuts against the Eagles.

Allison, a Lions Academy product, has been in excellent touch in the NEAFL this season after being taken at pick #55 in the 2016 draft.

Lyons was taken at pick #71 in the 2016 draft and has been impressive in the midfield and across halfback for the Lions NEAFL side.

Key defender Skinner, who was due to make his AFL debut last year before tearing his ACL, has made a successful return to playing in the NEAFL the last couple of months.

Claye Beams and Jarrad Jansen are both named on the extended bench after impressive form in the NEAFL recently.

Jansen is yet to play at Senior level this season, but starred in the Lions NEAFL side’s victory over Redland last weekend, collecting 32 disposals and kicking a goal.

Beams’ last Senior appearance was in Round 9, before a minor hamstring issue ruled him out for a couple of weeks. He has been gradually building back up to top form since.

Nick Robertson is also named on the extended bench after serving a one-match suspension.

Tom Rockliff will play his 150th AFL match on Sunday against the Eagles, having made his debut for the Lions back in 2009.

Dayne Zorko will not play after accepting a one-match suspension for striking.

The Lions final 22-man team will be named tomorrow (Friday) at 5pm.

Bounce down is at 2.40pm AWST (4.40pm AEST) on Sunday.
