The Brisbane Lions almost pulled off an upset against the seventh-placed Melbourne Demons yesterday at the MCG, pulling within seven points late in last quarter before eventually going down by 13 points. 

Captain Dayne Beams was magnificent and finished with a game-high 33 disposals, 16 of which were contested, and an equal game-high six inside 50s. Beams continued his fine form with the boot by slotting three majors.

Dayne Zorko was influential in the first quarter and ended up with 26 disposals and eight tackles by the game's end.

Daniel Rich continued his solid back-half of the season by grabbing 24 touches.

Josh Walker took a game-high five contested marks and kicked a valuable goal near the end of the match which gave the Lions a glimmer of hope. 

Dan McStay took a brilliant mark late in the game and produced six one percenters. 

Lewis Taylor and Ryan Bastinac both had strong matches in the middle and up front.
