After drawing with the Blues during last year’s Round 7 match, the Brisbane Lions were determined to outclass their opposition on Saturday night at Ikon Park.

The Lions dominated up forward from early in the game, ruling the inside 50s and collecting 10 more opportunities at goal over Carlton.

It was the second term which saw some of the Lions’ best-attacking plays, totalling 217 disposals compared to the Blues’ 173 disposals.

Emily Bates was one of the best on ground, making six tackles, four marks and collecting the most disposals of the game (20).

Sophie Conway had yet another prolific game, with her silky skills crucial to the Lions’ success in the final 15 minutes.

Conway kicked two final-quarter goals, gathered four marks and made four tackles - an outstanding performance from the 2017 draftee.

The forward pocket snap is proving to be Jess Wuetschner’s specialty in 2018, successfully nailing the set shot during both Round 2 and 3.

Wuetschner’s five goals this season has her in second place on the goalkicking tally overall in the league, one behind the Giants’ Phoebe McWilliams.

In their first game against their former club, Nat Exon and Bella Ayre celebrated the win in style by singing the team song from the centre of the huddle.

Exon kicked her first AFLW goal and Ayre collected three marks for her new side.

While the Blues won the hit-out contest overall, Tahlia Randall was again the most effective inside the centre circle this week with 15 hit-outs.
