Round 7 v GWS Giants
7.05pm AEDT, Friday, March 16
Blacktown International Sportspark, Sydney

The match is live on Fox Footy and the AFLW App. Updates will also be on the Lions AFLW Twitter.

The final round of the 2018 AFLW season begins tonight, and both the Lions and Giants have everything to play for.

A spot in the AFLW Grand Final is on the line for both teams at Blacktown International Sportspark, along with three other teams who stand a mathematical chance of making the Grand Final.

If the Lions beat the Giants - and Melbourne lose to Bulldogs, by a reasonable margin, and Adelaide lose to Collingwood - the Lions will make their second consecutive Grand Final.

While a win for the Giants would see them lock away second spot on the ladder, barring the Crows winning their match by about 12 goals.

With the AFLW season as short as it is, Kate McCarthy is confident that anything is possible in this final round.

"We do have to rely on some other results, but if we put a good performance together on Friday night, hopefully we can take care of our side of the equation." McCarthy said.

The Giants come into the match in very strong form, having toppled the ladder-leading Bulldogs last Saturday night with an 18-point upset win.

For the Lions, a strong start this Friday night will be imperative to the game, after coming off the back of an unexpected loss to Collingwood at home.

"Our starts have been something we've been trying to improve … we'll be hoping to come out firing from the first siren," McCarthy said.

Despite the Lions' loss to Collingwood last round, Giants Head Coach Al McConnell assures that his side won't be taking their opposition lightly.

“There’s a lot to play for both teams. They’re a good contested ball team, hard to score against, so it’ll be on,” McConnell said.

"Fans can expect both teams will be really working hard and really hungry for the win." McCarthy said.
