The Brisbane Lions NEAFL Development Coach Paul Henriksen said the group’s attitude and spirit is why the team enjoyed it’s third straight win on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions thumped GWS on their home turf by 93 points. Eleven players had more than 20 disposals and the team recorded it’s highest tackle count this season.

“I think the attitude the boys took into the game. We talk about attitude and spirit,” Henriksen told lions.com.au.

“We were prepared to work for the contest, to get to the ball.

“Our work rate was really high. I think that was a key for us having so many possessions more than the Giants.”

Only three goals were between the teams after the first quarter but after the break, the Lions ran away with the game.

“I think it was just about being consistent with the effort and attitude.”

Matt Eagles and Jack Frost have formed a strong relationship in the Lions’ backline. The pair kept the Giants goalless in the third quarter.

“Between them they had 20 intercept possessions. Matt had 12, Jack had 8,” Henriksen said.

The midfield group including Rohan Bewick, Claye Beams, Ryan Bastinac and Corey Lyons were equally impressive with five of them racking up more than 30 possessions.

Statistics aside, each player contributed on a monster day for the Lions.

“It really was a team performance,” he said.

The NEAFL side will enjoy a bye this week before taking on the Gold Coast Suns in Round 6.
