The Brisbane Lions' backline will be bolstered with the return of veteran Luke Hodge who was today was named in Senior Coach Chris Fagan’s 26-man squad to take on Collingwood this Sunday afternoon at the Gabba.

Defender Matt Eagles is on the cusp of making his AFL debut after being named on the extended interchange bench.

Eagles came to the Club via Foxtel’s The Recruit show in late 2016 and has been referred to as “the heart and soul” of the Lions' NEAFL side.

Eagles was today elevated from the Category B Rookie List to the primary list in place of draftee Jack Payne who has shin soreness.

Payne will spend a minimum of six weeks on long-term injury list and will be eligible to return for AFL and NEAFL selection from Round 13.

Tom Cutler has been named in defence and will celebrate 50 AFL games against the Magpies. 

Utilities Ben Keays and Claye Beams have both been named on the extended interchange bench, and if picked, will make their first Senior appearances for the year on Sunday.

Rohan Bewick has also been named on the extended interchange bench after a blistering performance against the Giants in Round 4 of the NEAFL. Bewick recorded 35 disposals and kicked two goals.

Nick Robertson will miss Round 7 after being suspended for striking in the Lions’ loss to GWS last week.

The Lions' final 22-man side for Sunday's match will be named at 5pm tomorrow.
