NEAFL Round 9
Brisbane Lions v Aspley Hornets
Maroochydore Multisport Complex, 11.30 am
Saturday, 2 June

Head to the Lions NEAFL Twitter account for score updates and player stats throughout the match. The match is not live-streamed.

After a disappointing loss to the Sydney Swans in Round 8, the Brisbane Lions NEAFL side will be fired up to return to the winners' circle when they take on the Aspley Hornets at Maroochydore Multisport Complex on Saturday.

Lions Development Coach Zane Littlejohn said the team didn't perform at the level required against the Swans in the 16-point loss.

“A few things probably weren’t at the level we expect them to be at, let alone AFL or NEAFL level," he said.

“The players weren’t happy with that on the day.”

“We need to bounce back now, Aspley are a very good one-on-one football side like the Swans are."

Aspley sit in sixth place on the ladder with three wins and five losses so far this season.

They were more than competitive last weekend against the ladder-leading Sydney University, losing by just 10 points.

Former Lion, and now Aspley forward, Jono Freeman will be a tough matchup for the Lions defence, with Jack Frost likely to be given the role to contain him.

Connor Ballenden will miss the Round 9 NEAFL match due to injury.
