Thank you for supporting Lions in the Community Give-A-Thon

Thank you Thanks for all your donations in our 24 hour Give-a-thon

The Brisbane Lions would like to thank every person or organisation who donated to their Lions in the Community Give-A-Thon appeal which raised $35,156 in 24 hours for the Club’s community department.

Lions Chairman Andrew Wellington said it was great to see Members and supporters embrace the new initiative.

“We set out with an ambitious target, but to still raise $35,000 for our under-resourced community department is a fantastic result,” Wellington said.

“These funds will add great value to the work they already do and for programs they would like to introduce over the next 12 months.

“We sincerely thank everyone who donated in those 24 hours.”

Throughout the day, as the tally went up, the Lions gave back to community schools, clubs and organisations in Queensland who are doing it tough.

Wynnum State High School, who have participated in Lions leadership programs for girls in Years 7-10, received a set of AFLW guernseys.

Pomona Junior Australian Rules Football Club on the Sunshine Coast received footballs and training gear.

In Term 3, Cherbourg State School in Central Queensland, will have Lions players visit and hold a footy clinic, with footballs included.

The Jindalee Jags’ volunteers will be hosted in the Lions Area VIP lounge at a match day later this year, as everyone knows community clubs cannot survive without their selfless volunteers.

Ross Savill and the Humeridge Youth Group in Toowoomba will receive 10 scholarships for students to play local football in the Darling Downs in 2019.

The Hymba Yumba school in Brisbane will receive a footy kit with balls.

The Lions are proud of the work they do in the community, with everything framed around their four pillars of grassroots, multicultural, indigenous and female. This financial boost can only help them make more of an impact in this space.
