Last time the Brisbane Lions met Carlton, fans were put through a rollercoaster of emotions.

After a blistering first half, the Lions skated to a 56-point lead early in the third quarter.

The game looked done and dusted, but Carlton had other ideas.

The Blues surged back with seven successive goals to get within a mere 11 points early in the final term.

Spectators were on the edge of their seats, the idea of a final quarter upset taunting Lions fans.

A 50m bomb by Daniel Rich, followed by another from similar distance by Eric Hipwood and a clever snap by Jack Barrett was enough to steady the ship.

The final siren sounded to see the Lions bring home a 30-point win on home turf - 17.10 (112) to 11.16 (82).

Both Dayne Beams and Dayne Zorko were exciting, kicking three goals each and leading the side's disposal count with 30 and 26 respectively.

Alex Witherden and Cedric Cox kicked their first career goals within a minute of each other, both brilliant finishes on the run.
