Ryan Lester will play his ninth season for the Brisbane Lions in 2019 after signing a one-year contract with the Club.

The 26-year-old said he is grateful for another year at the Club he’s called home since 2010.

“I just feel very lucky and I really love the Club,” he said.

“I’m excited about 2019 and believe in the young group we are building.”

'Froggy' is revered by his teammates for his selfless approach and having the ability to fill any position on field when needed. In the 2018 season he played 15 AFL games.

General Manager of Football David Noble said the Club highly value Lester’s leadership qualities on and off the field.

“Ryan has shown his leadership this year through not only his actions, but his behind the scenes influence with some of our emerging talent,” Noble said.

“He is always putting the team first as has been demonstrated by the versatility of roles for our team in the last couple of years.”

Lester has been a member of the Lions’ leadership group for the past two years.

"We’re a young, emerging team and I enjoy being able to have an impact on some of those younger players and guide them in the right direction,” he said.

Lester was selected with the Lions’ 28th pick at the 2010 AFL National Draft. He made his debut in Round 1, 2011 and in eight seasons has played 117 AFL games for the Lions.
