The first week of the 2018 AFL Trade Period has been intriguing for Brisbane Lions fans!

The Lions have inherited a new player, traded picks and have two high profile players wanting to join.

It looks set to be an exciting few days before the trade deadline on Wednesday night.

What's happened so far

In the first deal of the trade period, the Lions acquired talented Geelong forward Lincoln McCarthy and picks 54 and 57, in exchange for picks 42 and 60.

McCarthy visited the Gabba yesterday and spoke to Lions TV for the first time since joining the Club

He also made his first appearance on the Roar Deal podcast and talked in depth about his journey to the Lions.

The Lions' second move came on Wednesday in a picks swap with Gold Coast. Picks 24, 58 and 79 were sent down the M1 in exchange for picks 32, 41, 44, 77.

What could happen

Trade period finishes next Wednesday at 7.30pm AEST.

The Lions have shown interest in acquiring Fremantle midfielder Lachie Neale and Bulldogs defender Marcus Adams.

Neale is currently under contract for one more year at the Dockers, while Adams has two more years left to run on his contract.

As is often the case with trade period, expect these potential deals to play out right up until the deadline.

The biggest news of the week occurred yesterday when the media reported Dayne Beams was going to ask for a trade to his former club, Collingwood.

Senior Coach Chris Fagan spoke to SEN about the news and said that the Lions had not received a request from Beams for a trade.
