BRISBANE Lions utility Ashley McGrath has been charged with making forceful contact from front on with St Kilda's Brendon Goddard after the AFL match review panel completed its assessment of the weekend's NAB Cup games.
The incident occurred during the third quarter of the match played at Gold Coast Stadium on Saturday night and attracted a one-match ban which can be downgraded to a reprimand with an early guilty plea.
The bump was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points) for a total of four activation points, which is classified as a level-one offence (125 demerit points).
However, McGrath's existing good record over the past five years allows him to escape with the reprimand and 70.31 points toward his future record.
Another incident during the third term of the same match - contact between St Kilda's Jarryn Geary and the Lion Travis Johnstone – was assessed, but no further action was taken due to inconclusive video evidence.
The Lions held on to win the match, played in slippery conditions, by nine points.
An incident involving Fremantle's Antoni Grover and Richmond's Dean Polo during the third quarter of the Tigers' three-point NAB Cup win at Subiaco on Sunday night was also assessed.
The panel found the contact made by Grover was incidental and followed a legitimate spoiling action with no further action required on the part of the panel.
New Collingwood captain Nick Maxwell will face the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night to contest a four-match ban.
The match review panel charged Maxwell a week ago for rough conduct against West Coast youngster Patrick McGinnity, during their NAB Cup clash on February 7.
McGinnity suffered a broken jaw and Maxwell could have taken a three-match sanction with an early plea.
Maxwell's hearing was delayed by a week because Collingwood were at their Telstra AFL Community Camp on the Mornington Peninsula.
