Introduction

Marco Paparone is a tall forward with elite endurance who arrived at the Lions from Western Australia via the 2012 AFL National Draft. At 194cm, he covers plenty of ground and is more of a running 'hit-up' forward than your typical 'power' key forward.

Background

• Marco Paprone represented Western Australia in the 2012 U18 Championships, earning All Australian honours, and kicked 45 goals with the East Fremantle Colts in the WAFL competition.

• Paparone was renowned for having elite endurance and being strong overhead, with West Australian Talent Manager Raff Guadagnino labelling him as the "sleeping giant" of the 2012 Draft.

• He was eventually taken by the Brisbane Lions with the Club’s second selection, Pick No.23 overall, at the 2012 National Draft.

• At the time of his drafting, Lions National Talent Manager Rob Kerr said: "He'll be a really good connector for us - connect the backline to the forward line. He's a young boy with lots of development. We think he's a boy with a lot of potential."

Season by Season

Season by Season

• Paparone proved a standout on the track in his first ever AFL pre-season, regularly setting the pace in the team's time trials.

• After getting a taste of senior action during the NAB Cup, he began his apprenticeship with the Lions Reserves in the opening few rounds of the NEAFL season.

• He received a senior call-up earlier than expected in Round 4 against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium - and was the team's leading goal-scorer with three on debut (despite starting as the substitute).

• He went on to play a total of five senior games, kicking five goals, but spent the bulk of his first season with the Lions Reserves and was part of the side that went on to claim a second consecutive NEAFL premiership.
