Introduction

Brisbane Lions Captain Dayne Beams is a midfielder known for his skills around the packs, hardness at the contest and ability to win the contested footy.

Beams also has the ability to push forward and be dangerous in attack kicking 118 goals in his 110 games for Collingwood.

He was traded to Brisbane during the 2014 Trade Period for Pick No. 5 and Jack Crisp.

Background

• Beams played his junior football on the Gold Coast with Southport, he was the captain of the Queensland U18 team in 2008 before being drafted by Collingwood with pick 29 in the 2008 National Draft.

• He debuted for the Pies in Rd2 2009 and went on to play 18 games in his debut season, kicking 14 goals and winning Best First Year Player at the Pies.

• Beams was a member of Collingwood's 2010 AFL Premiership Team, defeating St Kilda in the Grand Final replay after the first Grand Final was drawn.

• 2012 was Beams' best individual season, winning the Collingwood Best & Fairest, All Australian selection and finishing equal 8th in the Brownlow medal with 19 votes.

• Beams was traded to the Lions during the 2014 AFL Trade Period in exchange for pick 5 and Jack Crisp.

Season by Season

Season by Season

• Beams was named Captain of the Lions by new Coach Chris Fagan and impressed across 19 matches.

• Averaged 27 disposals per game and kicked 20 goals.

• Was named best on ground in both QClashes.

• Finished 10th in the Brownlow Medal count.

Season by Season

• Dayne Beams played just six quarters of football this season before requiring knee surgery for troublesome tendinitis.

• When the midfielder returned, however, he was back to his brilliant best collecting 30 touches and kicking a goal against Port Adelaide in Round 7.

Season By Season

• Dayne Beams, recruited from Collingwood at the end of 2014, played just 16 matches and re-wrote Club history as the first player to claim the Merrett-Murray Medal having played less than 18 games.

• The 25-year old averaged 28 disposals (13 contested) and 6.5 clearances a match despite playing in a midfield often missing some of its best players through injury.

• His good form came to an abrupt end with news that he would require season-ending shoulder surgery.

• Beams had a season high 38 disposals against St Kilda in Round Nine and kicked three goals from 29 touches a week later against the Giants.
