Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy

The Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy provides our Club with a fantastic opportunity to develop talent in our own backyard.

"As a local Queenslander myself, I was fortunate enough to come through the junior ranks and be drafted by the Club as a Queensland priority pick.

But these days, local players normally have to try their luck at the National Draft with an increasingly high likelihood that they will need to move interstate to pursue their AFL dream.

The introduction of the Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy in 2009 has allowed our Club to develop local footballers – within our zoning area – from as early as 12 years old right up until they reach drafting age.

Being able to provide a direct pathway for Queensland kids to stay within their home State and play AFL is a massive carrot for local talent.

With this wonderful recruitment tool, we can now focus on finding the most talented young Queensland athletes – whether it be from an AFL background or another sporting code.

The aim is to one day have a greater percentage of locally produced Queensland players representing the Brisbane Lions AFC in the AFL competition."

– Brisbane Lions Senior Coach Michael Voss
