The Brisbane Lions will wear a Bears-inspired guernsey against Essendon this Saturday to commemorate the Club’s biennial Hall of Fame event to be held in Brisbane on Wednesday 21 May.

The design was unveiled two months ago, after fans were given the opportunity to vote on their preferred heritage-style guernsey.

More than 4000 people cast votes in the poll, which featured three potential designs, each a tribute to the trailblazers of AFL in Queensland.

The winning guernsey design, which features a stylised Queensland-shaped ‘BB’ pyramid on its front, was based on the one worn throughout the first half of the Brisbane Bears’ existence.

The Lions wore a similar design as part of the 2006 AFL Heritage Round, however the latest version is the inverse ‘home’ style guernsey – with the jumper being predominantly gold with a maroon ‘BB’ pyramid.

It features the Hall of Fame logo sublimated into the back neckline, with “Dare to beat the Bear” text – a quote derived from the inaugural Bears song – watermarked into the inner neckline.

The names of the 17 inaugural Hall of Fame inductees are also watermarked into the front of the jumper.

A limited range of these guernseys are available for purchase only through the Lions Shop - www.lionshop.com.au

A range of other activities are planned around the match – including a special ‘retro’ Hall of Fame march.

To be part of the march, simply upload a photo of yourself wearing any old Fitzroy, Bears, or Brisbane Lions gear on social media.
