LIONS defender Dan Merrett says there is a good feeling around the Club ahead of next weekend’s season opener against Collingwood at the Gabba.

Merrett is expected to match up on Pies key forward Travis Cloke but is confident that the Lions’ backline is capable of withstanding the challenge.

“You rely on each other so much, having the three (pre- season) games (together) has helped and you gain confidence in one another. I know they’ve got my back and I’ve got theirs.”

“It’s a massive challenge (Collingwood), I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait to have a bit of a wrestle”, he said.

Merrett was one of the Lions’ best in their drawn final NAB Challenge match against the Gold Coast on Friday night.

“I got through pretty well, I’ll just look after myself heading into Round One.

“I think from a preparation point of view I’ve done everything I can”, he said.

“I can’t wait to get out there and compete.”
