In a landscape of ever-changing AFL jumper designs, it is perhaps the most recognisable of all – the red, blue and gold of the Fitzroy Lions.

This season, the iconic royal blue yoke, and gold FFC monogram on the vibrant red of the last ever jumper worn by Fitzroy, will be proudly commemorated through an anniversary jumper worn by the Brisbane Lions in their Round 16 clash with Melbourne at the MCG.

It is 40 years since Fitzroy first wore the colours – to coincide with the introduction of colour TV – when the light maroon/deep red of 1974 was changed to vibrant red in 1975.

The commemorative jumper was launched today in Melbourne by Fitzroy greats Kevin Murray and Garry Wilson, and current Brisbane Lions Vice-Captain Pearce Hanley.

“It’s a terrific honour for us to wear this guernsey and honour the incredible history that lives on in our Club,” said Hanley.

The jumper was the second longest lasting in Club history (22 years) and reaped a total of two grand final wins – one Night/Pre-Season Premiership (1978) and one Reserves Flag (1989).
