Exciting youngster Jaden McGrath has re-signed with the Brisbane Lions.

The 19-year-old was contracted to the end of 2016 but has moved early to sign a two-year contract extension keeping him at the Club until at least the end of 2018.

McGrath is the second of last years’ draftees to re-commit to the Club following Rising Star nominee Harris Andrews in August, and said he is confident of the direction the Club is heading.

“I’m over the moon to re-sign with the Club. There are good times ahead,” McGrath told lions.com.au.

Hailing from Kerang, a rural town of 4000 people in northern Victoria, McGrath was given a dream introduction to the AFL playing against Collingwood at the Gabba in round one after being taken at No.73 in the 2014 National Draft.

However his season ended in round three against Richmond when he sustained a foot injury.

McGrath said he was looking forward to returning to the main group following the players’ return in January.

“I didn’t play a lot of footy over the year but getting the opportunity at the start of the season probably helped (with renewing my contract),” said McGrath.

“I spent a bit of time in rehab pre-Christmas with a bit of soreness through one of my shins but it’s more precautionary because of the stress fracture I had on the same foot this season.

“After Christmas I should be ready to get back into full training.”
