Fitzroy were outside the top six when they took on ladder leader Collingwood in Round 11 of the 1992 season.

That day at Princes Park saw Gary Pert in black and white stripes for the first time against his old club.

In a low-scoring contest, Fitzroy gradually gained the ascendancy. They led by 27 points at three-quarter time, but the Pies shifted gear, delivering a seven-goal final term.

Collingwood Coach Leigh Matthews’ move to throw Pert forward, put the visitors in front with under two minutes remaining.

In one final attack, a long bomb to the square saw Fitzroy Captain Paul Roos fly from behind and follow through with a left-foot snap to secure the win with just 11 seconds to go.

Victory by just three points in one of the games of the 1992 season – Fitzroy 13.14 (92) def. Collingwood 13.11 (89).
