Brisbane Lions defender Sam Mayes has overcome a minor foot injury in time for Saturday’s highly-anticipated QClash at the Gabba.

Mayes has been named in Chris Fagan’s 22-man side to take on the Gold Coast SUNS, with his rebound impact off halfback a huge boost for the side.

In further good news, Cedric Cox has recovered from a minor ankle injury in time to play.

Michael Close has earned his Senior spot back, after an impressive performance in the NEAFL last weekend against the Swans.

Close kicked three goals and was a dominant presence in the forward line.

Young defender Alex Witherden will not play, after not recovering in time from a hamstring injury sustained in the Round 20 loss to the Western Bulldogs.
