The Brisbane Lions have made five changes to their playing list. The Club has informed Ryan Harwood, Jarrad Jansen, Jonathan Freeman, Josh Clayton and rookie Blake Grewar that their contracts will not be renewed in 2018.
Grewar, Jansen, Clayton and Freeman all played in the NEAFL’s Grand Final win over the Sydney Swans on Saturday night.
General Manager of Football Operations David Noble said, “This time of the season is always difficult, especially when you have to let good people go. On behalf of the Brisbane Lions we’d like to thank the players for their service to the Club.”
Harwood played 81 Senior games for the Lions since making his debut in Round 17, 2010 but has battled numerous injuries throughout this career.
Freeman was the first member of the Hyundai Lions Academy to graduate to the Club’s Senior list. Since making his debut in 2014 he played 14 games for the Club, but like Harwood, suffered injury setbacks.
Jansen joined the Lions in 2014 and played eight AFL matches, his last game for the Lions was Round 19’s loss to West Coast in Perth.
Clayton joined Brisbane as a father-son selection in the 2014 AFL draft and played two Senior games in the 2016 season.
Grewar came to the Lions in 2016’s NAB AFL Rookie Draft, after regularly starring for Redland in the NEAFL competition. This year he celebrated 100 NEAFL games.
